CREG Double-Shield TBM Relaunches on 6.38km Xinjiang Tunnel

Guozigou Pipeline Project TBM
TBM Reused for Tunnel No. 4

The Ping’an TBM completed excavation of the 4.23km-long Tunnel No. 2 on 28 July before being prepared for reuse on Tunnel No. 4. The machine will now excavate a 6,377m section of the pipeline project.

CRTG is carrying out the tunnelling works using two China Railway Engineering Equipment Group (CREG) machines, Ping’an and Green.

The alignment presents challenging ground conditions, including developed fault zones, fractured and weak surrounding rock, and water-bearing strata. These conditions require careful control of excavation and support operations.

CREG reported that construction across the project’s four mountain tunnels has reached approximately 65%.

Pipeline to Strengthen China’s Gas Transmission Network

The Guozigou Pipeline Project comprises approximately 32km of pipeline infrastructure, including four mountain tunnels with a combined length of 23.16km. It forms part of China’s West–East Gas Transmission Lines 2 and 3.

The new infrastructure is designed to transport up to 60 billion cubic metres of natural gas annually. Once completed, it will provide an alternative route and improve the resilience of the existing gas transmission network.

According to CREG, the two existing West–East Gas Transmission lines have transported more than 557 billion cubic metres of natural gas since entering operation.
