RMTC appointed to manage Riyadh Metro Red Line extension

Riyadh Metro Red Line extension

Riyadh Metro Transit Consultants (RMTC), a joint venture between Parsons Corporation, Systra and Egis, has been selected to provide project and construction management services for the Riyadh Metro Red Line Extension.

Awarded in March 2026, the contract was recently announced by RMTC. The joint venture will provide management and supervision services on behalf of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC), covering the design, implementation, commissioning and commencement of operations of the 8.4km extension.

The driverless extension will connect the existing Red Line terminus at King Saud University with Diriyah South. Approximately 7.1km of the route will run underground, with the project comprising five stations: three underground and two elevated.

RMTC has been involved in the Riyadh Metro programme since 2013. The joint venture has managed the delivery of three of the network’s six lines – Blue, Red and Orange – representing more than 65% of the overall metro programme.

“We are honoured to continue working on the Riyadh Metro, a transformative project that is redefining urban mobility in the Kingdom’s capital and enhancing quality of life,” said Pierre Santoni, president of Infrastructure EMEA at Parsons.

“As a proud long-term partner of the RCRC, and the lead consultant for the delivery of this world-class system, we look forward to supporting the city of Riyadh and the Kingdom in successfully completing this extension and future phases of the metro, leveraging our global expertise and deep local knowledge to drive excellence at every stage of delivery.”

In January 2026, RCRC awarded the design-and-build contract for the Red Line Extension to a consortium led by Webuild, comprising Larsen & Toubro, Nesma and Alstom. RMTC’s appointment covers the separate project and construction management role.
