As the second TBM for the expansion from Vila Prudente to Penha of the São Paulo Metro Line 2-Green, TBM Cora Coralina, broke through at the Analia Franco station on 27 June.
The launching location of this TBM was the Rapadura Complex and it travelled 1.6 km, removing 141,000 m³ of spoil.Also installation of 873 concrete rings was done by this machine for the lining of the tunnel between Vila Formosa and Analia Franco stations. Since May when it reached the Coxim shaft in the Vila Formosa area, the TBM has excavated 400 m and installed 253 rings.
Cyrrently, the required time for TBM to undergo of maintenance is almost 20 days, that will done before restarting excavation towards the future Santa Clara station, stopping first at the Cestari shaft. The Falchi Gianini shaft, which is located just before the Vila Prudente station (already in operation) and passes also through the Orfanato station is the final destination of this digging process. In order to excavating in the direction of the Rapadura Complex and complete the entire tunnel, the TBM is due to be disassembled and reassembled at the Penha station site.
The excavating and lining capacity of TBM christened Cora Coralina with100 m long, 11.66 m diameter and 500 t weight is up to 15m daily. Involving engineers, mechanics, technicians and electricians, up to 150 people work directly on its operation, which takes place in three daily shifts and the TBM – equipped with back-up, hyperbaric chamber, ventilation system and segments erector – will excavate approximately 7.5 km of tunnel, part of the Line 2 extension.
Extension of Line 2-Green
In order to constructing a further 8.4 km section (8 km of which will be operational) with eight new stations, crossing the eastern zone of São Paulo, the Line 2-Green is being developed between Vila Prudente and Penha, while the São Paulo government’s budget is EUR 2.43 bn (BRL13.4 bn). The scheduled date for complete the first stage, from Vila Prudente to Vila Formosa, is 2026, while the 2027 has been determined for the second section, from Vila Formosa to Penha. Folloing its completion, the new stretch will speed up the journey for residents of the eastern region and facilitate reaching other regions of São Paulo, as well as redistributing passenger demand on the other metro and train lines, bringing more comfort to people.
