The 15.4km first phase will comprise 15 stations and around 11km of tunnels, running from Železnik in the south through the city centre to Pančevački Most. It will also include 10 evacuation and ventilation shafts.
Lot 3 covers the remaining civil works required to complete Phase 1, including key tunnel sections connecting the southern and central parts of the alignment. These run through Požeška, Park Banovo Brdo, Ada Ciganlija and Sajam to Mostar, Savski Trg, Trg Republike, Skadarlija and Dunav.
The package also includes completion of stations and shafts following passage of the TBMs, architectural and finishing works, mechanical and electrical installations, escalators and lifts, external works and testing and commissioning.
PowerChina is already delivering Lots 1 and 2. Lot 2 includes nine stations, two shafts, 4.1km of at-grade and cut-and-cover construction and 3.1km of shield-driven tunnel, as well as the segment manufacturing facility.
Two TBMs manufactured by China Railway Construction Heavy Industry Corporation (CRCHI) in Changsha will excavate the bored sections. Each machine is 110m long, weighs around 1,500t and has a 9.7m-diameter cutterhead. Factory acceptance testing has been completed and the machines are now being transported from China to Serbia.
Belgrade Metro & Train said in August that the two machines will excavate approximately 11km of tunnels during Phase 1.
The civil works will interface with a €915m turnkey systems contract awarded to Alstom. The French manufacturer will supply 32 three-car driverless Metropolis trains together with Urbalis CBTC signalling, telecommunications, power supply, trackwork, platform screen doors, depot equipment and a central control centre.
The Lot 3 contract was signed on 18 September by representatives of Serbia’s Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, the City of Belgrade’s Secretariat for Public Transport, Belgrade Metro & Train and PowerChina. The Serbian government said its signing effectively completes the contracting of Phase 1.
The complete Line 1 is planned to extend to 21.3km with 21 stations and 13 evacuation and ventilation shafts.
