The contract, awarded by Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario, follows completion of the development and advanced design phase, which was awarded in 2024.
The PTUS package is one of the most technically demanding sections of the Ontario Line and includes construction of two parallel tunnels, each approximately 3km long, two underground stations, and a connection to the Toronto Transit Commission’s existing Line 2 subway.
Work will be carried out in a densely developed urban environment with extensive existing transport infrastructure and underground utilities, requiring careful coordination to minimise disruption during construction.
The Ontario Line will comprise 15.6km of new metro, with 15 stations and more than 40 connections to Toronto’s existing public transport network. Once complete, the line is expected to reduce end-to-end journey times to under 30 minutes.
The PTUS contract will be delivered using a Progressive Design-Build (PDB) procurement model, under which the client, designers and contractors collaborate during the project’s development phase before progressing into construction.
