Alkimos Seawater Desalination Plant – Segment production completed

The Alkimos Seawater Desalination Plant’s precast segment production has been completed by Alkimos Seawater Alliance ahead of schedule.

With the aim of lining the 2.5km intake and 4km outfall tunnels for the project in Perth, Western Australia, more than 31,000 segments were produced and just 0.2% rejected, well below the 1% budget allowance. Wth a daily performance of producing up to 330 segments, the team completed 37 shifts ahead of schedule, whereas zero injuries were recorded across the entire production phase.

Acciona said:”Our safety culture was reinforced through 85+ safety walk submissions, daily toolbox attendance, and proactive dust and noise monitoring.”

The responsibility of the design, build and operation of the plant is up to Alkimos SeaWater Alliance, led by Acciona with Water Corporation and Jacobs Group Australia.

The date of commencing marine tunneling on the desalination plant was earlier this year.
