As the world’s first in situ variable-diameter machine,CREG’s in situ variable-diameter TBM has been commissioned on the Guangzhou–Baiyun Intercity Railway.
With ability of expanding from 8.83m to 12.45m,during the diameter transformation of this Variable Diameter No. 1 the excavation area increases by almost 98%, while the formed tunnel inner diameter area increases by about 89%.
According to CREG:”The technology enables green, low-impact construction with less disturbance, minimal surface impact, and low interference. It eliminates the need for surface excavation or additional working sites, allowing a single TBM to continuously construct both the running tunnel and the station platform structure.The technology is especially well-suited for dense urban cores with heavy traffic, limited land availability, and complex demolition conditions, offering significant potential for future urban infrastructure development.”
