Completion of the Bjonnas Twin-Tube Tunnel

Using the NATM (New Austrian Tunneling Method), final digging phase of the Bjonnas Tunnel was successfully completed on October 4.

The quantity of excavated rock by crews was almost 450,000 cubic meters, whereas some of which is due to be repurposed as fill material for the freeway.

Linking the major urban centers of Oslo and Kristiansand, the Langangen – Rugtvedt E18 motorway project is one of Norway’s most significant infrastructure developments. Inclusing several key structures, such as the Bjonnas twin-tube tunnel (2 x 2.5 km) and the Grenland tunnel (5.1 km), this 17 km section project connects the towns of Langangen and Rugtvedt.

Following completion of the excavation process, currently teams are moving forward with paving, roadworks, and the installation of electromechanical systems in the tunnels.
