HS2 is searching for £300m phase 2 ground investigation companies

HS2 has started the competition for ground investigation companies to deliver a £300m programme of works for the phase 2 route over a period of four years, possibly extending to eight years.

The schedule is going to be split into two lots. The first will be for a single partner at the role of principal contractor taking on co-ordination and management of the packaging of ground investigation works plus the planning and implementation of GI site allowing the works across the phase two route.

The second lot is to create a panel of 10 ground investigation contractors, which is going to deliver a calculated £215m programme of works.

Partners will capture hydrogeological, geotechnical and geo-environmental data through examinations, the boring and detailed logging of exploratory holes, and in-situ and laboratory testing, culminating in the production of factual reports across the phase 2 route, some land of which will be in areas of historic mining.

The interested companies have to submit bids before 19 August and the winner will be announced in September 2022.
