WTC2026 – Abstract submissions deadline approaches

The WTC2026, which is going to be held in Canada, is under preparation while WTC2025 closed in Stockholm this week.

The scheduled deadline for abstracts for the World Tunnel Congress 2026 is May 30.

The theme of next year’s conference in Montreal is Connecting communities through underground infrastructure and the topics are:

• Contractual practices, insurance and risk management
• Planning and use of underground space
• Site investigation and ground characterisation
• Instrumentation, monitoring and remote sensing
• Artificial intelligence and machine learning
• Conventional tunnelling in challenging conditions
• Sequential excavation and NATM
• Mechanised tunnelling in challenging conditions
• Immersed tunnels
• Caverns and power houses
• Microtunnelling
• Shaft design
• Innovative tunnelling
• Robotics and automation
• Ground support and lining design
• Grouting, groundwater control and waterproofing
• Digital and information technology
• Operation, inspection, maintenance and rehabilitation
• Safety in tunnelling
• Equity, diversity and inclusion in tunneling

Emphasizing on that those in the tunneling industry to share their expertise and the challenges they encounter, the organising committee said:”As we also value diversity and inclusivity, we welcome submissions from specialists across various disciplines.”

The deadlines for the abstract and paper submissions are:

• May 30, 2025: Abstract submission deadline
• July 15, 2025: Abstract notification of acceptance
• August 1, 2025: Full paper submission opens
• October 26, 2025: Full paper submission deadline
• December 12, 2025: Full paper notification of acceptance
• January 9, 2026: Full paper revision deadline
• January 16, 2026: Full paper notification
