
In order to advancing the Phase 2 of the Cross Island Line (CRL), civil construction works has been started by Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA).
Acting minister for transport Jeffrey Siow officiated the ground-breaking ceremony at the site of the future CRL Clementi station.
Expanding the 29km-long Phase 1 of the CRL by 15km westwards, Phase 2 of the CRL (CRL2) is planned to be completed by 2032.
While the number of CRL2’s stations will be six underground stations, two of them are due to be interchange stations, with CRL King Albert Park station and CRL Clementi station connecting commuters to the Downtown Line (DTL) and East-West Line (EWL) respectively.
As Singapore’s deepest station, CRL King Albert Park interchange station will be at 50m deep and extend to five basement levels,whereas surpassing the CRL Pasir Ris station which will be 47m deep and Bencoolen station on the DTL, currently the deepest underground station at 43m.
Benefiting a 12.8m diameter TBM,a 5km bored tunnel between CRL Bright Hill and CR14 stations through the Central Catchment Nature Reserve is going to be constructed. The date of commencing the tunneling works towards the CCNR was May this year, along with ongoing ground improvement works.
With the aim of advancing CRL2, LTA has concluded nine civil contracts. While the design and construction of tunnels between Maju station (CR16) and Clementi station (CR17) was granted to Sinohydro Corporation Ltd (Singapore branch); the responsibility of building tunnels between West Coast station (CR18) and Jurong Lake District station (CR19) is up to Nishimatsu Construction Co Ltd – Okumura Corporation Singapore Branch Joint Venture and the design and construction of Turf City station and tunnels (CR14) and the tunnel between Fairways Drive and Sin Ming Walk awarded to Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co (Singapore)/Obayashi Corporation Joint Venture; the West Coast station and tunnels to be completed by Gaumda Bhd Singapore branch; the design and construction of Maju station and tunnels by KTC Civil Engineering & Construction Pte Ltd; and the design and construction of Jurong Lake District station and tunnels to KTC Civil Engineering & Construction.
