During the contract that the German manufacturer Herrenknecht has concluded with Gamuda, it is to supply three TBMs for Taiwan’s Kaohsiung Metro Yellow Line package YC01and the machines are EPB shield machines for the mass transit project.
The TBMs will be customised for local silty clay and sand geology as well as a tight curve design.
While the Package YC01 was granted to the consortium of Gamuda Berhad and Asia World Engineering & Construction in November 2023 by Project owner Kaohsiung Mass Rapid Transit Bureau, the RM3.45bn (€690m) contract involves construction of a 4.4km railway in NiaoSong district, including 3.5km twin-bored tunnels and 0.9km of elevated tracks, four stations (three underground and one above ground) and two crossovers and cross-passages.
