Chennai Metro has invited bids for Corridor 4 line

Chennai Metro which is on India’s east coast, has revealed an online tender to choose a general consultant for the Chennai Metro Rail Phase 2 Project – Corridor 4 (as well as parts of Corridors 3 and 5).

The consultant is going to be selected on a Quality-Cost-Based basis. The suggested Corridor 4 alignment will have a 26km length totally of which 16km will be elevated and 10km underground. It will begin from Lighthouse as an underground system and expand westwards, terminating at Poonamallee Bypass.

Of the designed 30 stations along the route, 18 will be elevated and 12underground. Two Tunnel Boring Machines will be necessary to bore twin tunnels located at depths of 15m–18m beneath the ground. NATM or cut-and-cover will bore the stations.

Currently, it is predicted that tunnels will have a 6.35m outer diameter and 5.8m inner diameter, with five segments to a ring as well as key. Segments are to be 1.2, 1.4 and 1.5m wide and 275mm thick.
