The contract for the first construction phase of the Riederwald Tunnel has been granted to a consortium of Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau AG, Bickhardt Bau SE and Implenia Civil Engineering GmbH by Germany’s Autobahn GmbH des Bundes.
As Autobahn’s largest inner-city construction project in the state of Hesse, the Riederwald Tunnel in Frankfurt is the core of the gap closure between the A66 and the Frankfurt A 661 eastern bypass.
Linking the eastern area with the city of Frankfurt, this tunnek is a 2.2km, with an almost 1.1km tunnel beneath the Riederwald district.
The first trough and tunnel sections east of the Erlenbruch motorway junction are the contents of the contract for the first construction phase (VE 4.1.1). While the used method for building this tunnel the cut-and-cover method under the protection of a water-impermeable excavation pit enclosure, the tunnel structure consists of a closed two-cell reinforced concrete frame with staggered tunnel portals in each direction of travel.
With the aim of enabling groundwater to flow in its final state, a filter is due to be installed between the excavation pit shoring and the structure and below the floor of the structure.
The scheduled time duration for construction of VE 4.1.1 is approximately three years.
