The cyberattack occurred overnight into Monday, 12 October 2026, affecting FLC’s IT systems. Although the incident continues to disrupt some systems at the construction site, work has restarted across several areas of the project.
Tunnel Construction Activities Resume
According to FLC contractor director Matthias Laubenstein, offshore testing of the immersion pontoon IVY is taking place this week. The tests are an important step in preparations to immerse the first of the tunnel’s 10 special elements.
Earthworks are continuing without disruption on both the Danish and German sides of the project. Some concrete works have also resumed, while reinforcement steel production is continuing at the panel factory in Denmark.
The production facility at Rødbyhavn is expected to resume operations shortly, although some IT-related effects remain.
Investigation Into Cyberattack Continues
The cyberattack is being investigated by Denmark’s National Special Crime Unit. Sund & Bælt, the Danish state-owned company responsible for the Fehmarnbelt Tunnel, has said it cannot provide further details while the investigation is ongoing.
Although the incident has affected the contractor’s IT systems, construction activities have gradually restarted. No further details about the nature of the attack have been disclosed.
Fehmarnbelt Tunnel Project Progress
The approximately 18km-long Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link will connect Denmark and Germany and is designed to become the world’s longest immersed tunnel.
FLC is responsible for constructing the immersed tunnel. The consortium comprises VINCI Construction Grands Projets, Per Aarsleff, Solétanche Bachy International, CFE, Wayss & Freytag, Max Bögl Stiftung, BAM Infra and BAM International.
Four of the tunnel’s 79 standard elements have been immersed. Preparations are continuing for the installation of the first of 10 special elements, which include a basement section.
The project will provide a fixed road and rail connection beneath the Fehmarnbelt strait, strengthening transport links between Scandinavia and continental Europe.
