Following a breakthrough on May 20, the Brenner Base Tunnel between the Sill Gorge and Pfons currently is continuously linked.
While the joint venture Implenia-Webuild made the breakthrough on the main west tunnel, it means both main tunnels of the two construction lots H41 Sill Gorge-Pfons and H21 Sill Gorge are now connected for about 14km.
Using the Viller Berg mountain using drill and blast, almost 3.4km of tunnels, up to 400m deep, were excavated, whereas the first breakthrough to connect the two lots was made in September last year.
In mid-January 2022 after launching the construction site, works for H41 Sill Gorge-Pfons, in the northern area of the BBT between the Sill Gorge of Innsbruck in the north and Pfons in the south was started. and the excavation works commenced in July 2022 towards Innsbruck with the lowering of the cross-chamber slab.
As responsible for H21 Sill Gorge, south of Innsbruck, from August 2020 until December 2024 Porr implemented the works to connect the northern end of the BBT and the central station in Innsbruck.
