Moss Railway Tunnels – Mossia ANS Completes Excavation

Moss Railway Tunnels

As one of two tunnels on the Sandbukta-Moss-Såstad railway line in Norway, digging process of the Moss tunnel was completed by the Mossia ANS consortium.

November 2022 was the date of completing Calberg Tunnel.

In order to constructing the two tunnels, the Acciona/Implenia consortium implemented 1,560 blasts and removed 2.5 million tons of rock, while blasting for the Moss Tunnel commenced in November 2019.

Currently for completion of the Moss Tunnel, shotcrete, waterproofing and anti-freeze membranes, the concreting of the final lining, as well as the construction of trenches, drainage and foundations is due to be done. In addition, a substructure will be constructed for the rail installation.

While the scheduled date for completion of works by Mossia is 2025, this company is responsible for building 9km of the 10km project for Norway’s transport agency, Bane NOR.

Considering that the intention of project is increasing capacity and reducing travel time on the Østfold line, it is slated to provide a new double-track railway through the municipality of Moss in southern Norway. For improving link between Norway’s major cities and ease traffic congestion around Oslo, this project is part of Bane NOR’s Intercity program.
