Commencement of the Long Itchington TBM naming contest

Inception of March was the date of HS2 Ltd competition for residents of the Warwickshire area and for schools and asked them to offer a name for the TBM that is going to dig Long Itchington Wood in Warwickshire this summer. The deadline of this contest is April 2021 and the final list of the suggestions will be released in May. Eventually three finalists will compete in a national public vote, before a winner is announced in the summer.

The BBV Joint venture – Balfour Beatty Group and VINCI Construction, is responsible for operation of this 2,000-ton weight TBM, which will excavate 1.61 km length twin bore tunnel under Long Itchington Wood. The estimated time for completion of the first bore of the tunnel is 5 months, and then the TBM will be utilized at the south portal before being transported by road back to the north portal to begin the second bore.
