Second Breakthrough at Roma Street in Cross River Rail project

Cross River Rail Second breakthrough at Roma Street

Meeting of the Cross River Rail’s second TBM, Merle (1350 t weight), with this project’s other machine, Else, in the future station’s huge underground cavern, was happened by driving into the 280-m-long cavern at Roma Street. The connection of the future Roma Street and Woolloongabba Cross River Rail stations, which were significant to secure the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, is currently done by these twin tunnels. The covered distance by both machines is more than 2.5 km beneath the Brisbane River and CBD then they passed under Albert Street and broke through at Roma Street.
