Delhi Metro Project – Major Golden Line breakthrough

Following excavation of a 0.792km-long tunnel, the EPBM broke through at Tughlakabad Railway colony station on 7 May. As part of the Aerocity–Tughlakabad corridor, two parallel tunnels are being constructed on this stretch, whereas the breakthrough on the parallel tunnel is expected to be achieved in July.

The location of this new tunnel is at an average depth of almost 18m, while about 566 rings have been installed in the tunnel, which has an inner diameter of 5.8m. The tunnel rings were cast at a fully mechanised casting yard at Mundka. The concrete segments were cured with a steam curing system to achieve early strength.

Already 40.109km of underground lines are being constructed that is part of the Phase IV work approved and the Aerocity-Tughlakabad corridor has underground sections totalling 19.343km.

The date of the latest breakthrough was after completion of tunneling between Chhatarpur Mandir and Ignou Station in February, and between Kishangarh and Vasant Kunj Station in March.
