Antoine Schwob – Project Director, Bouygues Travaux Publics

As the winner for the Major Project of the Year in the over €500M category of the ITA-AITES Awards in 2019, the completed TMCLK project provides an alternative access route to the Hong Kong International Airport placed on Chek Lap Kok Island, which was only been accessible via the Tsing Ma Bridge.

Also the design and construction of remarkable 4.5km twin-tube subsea tunnels, 57 cross passages, as well as a 500m cut and cover section are the contents of this project.

The date of inaugurating TMCLK project was December 2020, whereas its challenges included cutting tools replacement at hyperbaric pressure up to 5.8 bar, shafts and tunneling in newly reclaimed land, 17.6m diameter TBM tunneling, a bespoke mini TBM for 41 subsea cross passages and more.

In order to develope innovations in the tunnel tunneling industry and paving the way for future projects, the valuable experiences gained during this project have significantly contributed.

Bouygues Travaux Publics and Dragages Hong Kong Limited, both subsidiaries of Bouygues Construction, collaborated as a joint venture to design and execute the project over a span of 7 years.
