Concluding the Contract of Torino Metro CBTC

Torino Metro Station using CBTC System

In order to provide the latest generation of communications-based train control and four additional trainsets for the automated rubber-typed light metro Line 1, the city of Torino’s infrastructure manager Infra. To has granted a turnkey contract with €156m value to Alstom.

Backing GoA4 unattended automatic operation, the CBTC is due to replace the available signaling on the 15·1 km line, and will be installed on a 3·4 km stretch from Fermi to Cascine Vica which is under construction.

Equipping the metro’s existing fleet of VAL208 cars supplied by Siemens, the Metropolis trainsets will have a total capacity of 320 passengers, with wide gangways and dedicated areas for people with reduced mobility. Features will include multimedia passenger information displays and CCTV.

The contents of the revealed contract on February 4 are an option for 12 more trains, and installing the CBTC in a depot that is under construction.
