In order to constructing a tunnel almost 1.2km long, the joint venture, comprising Bouygues Construction and Robb Carr, recently commissioned TBM Jane Starkey.
Another160m of the pipeline will be trenched.
Stretching from Thornleigh Reservoir to the south side of Zig-Zag Creek at the Thornleigh-Wahroonga Water Pumping Station, the new pipeline for Sydney Water’s construction is expected to be completed in 2027.
With 180cm diameter, this pipeline’s path will be parallel to the existing one and is due to go beneath private properties and cross local roads, between 14-38m underground.
Increasing the resilience of the local drinking water supply and catering for the expected housing growth in the area will be the aims of this project.
The TBM is named after Thornleigh nurse Jane Starkey who was known for her welfare work with women and children in the early 1900s.
The date of starting tunneling on the North West Wastewater Connection, another Sydney Water project was previous month.
