Underground Controlled Blasting at Roma Street

Underground controlled blasting is planned to occur at the Roma Street construction site in the week commencing Monday 8 November 2021. The controlled blasts are going to take place underground within the cavern.

An SMS alert will be distributed about four hours before to approve timing of each controlled blast.

Personal information collected for the purposes of SMS services will be managed in accordance with the Information Privacy Act 2009 (QLD).

  • A siren will sound near the blasting area five minutes prior to the blast
  • Residents and businesses within nearly 200 meters of the blasting area may hear and feel the controlled blast. The sound is similar to rumbling thunder and some slight vibration may be felt
  • Roma Street train and bus station will continue to work as normal, unless notified otherwise.

In the event of wet weather or unforeseen circumstances, this activity may be rescheduled.
