Dhaka Mass Transit Company Ltd (DMTCL) has been awarded to the consortium comprised by SMEC (Singapore), Egis Rail SA (leader, France), and Oriental Consultant Global – OCG (Japan) the contract for the design of the 17.4 km Dhaka Metro Line 5 South, containing a 12.8 km underground section from Gabtoli to Aftabnagar West with 12 stations. The 3-year MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) line 5 project in Dhaka is divided into three distinct steps:

• Revision and review of the feasibility study within nine months
• Detailed design of the civil engineering and systems up to the DCE for fifteen months
• Assistance in the evaluation of bids and in choosing the builders
