Being delivered by Crosslinx Transit Solutions, comprising Aecon, ACS Infrastructure Canada, EllisDon and AtkinsRéalis, working with Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario, over than 10km of the 19km Eglinton Crosstown LRT from Mount Dennis Station to Kennedy Station run underground.
At the peak of construction, more than 800 Crosslinx team members worked on site.
While the quantity of poured concrete during construction was 480,000m3, 1,200km of fibre optic cable and 253km of electrical wiring were installed, 47km of track laid, 25 accessible stops, including 15 underground, were built, along with 21 electric substations, 15 traction power stations and a state-of-the-art maintenance and storage facility.
Describing the line’s opening as a monumental landmark for the Crosslinx team, Aecon Group president and CEO Jean-Louis Servranckx said: “Delivering a transformative project of this scale required steadfast commitment, grit and tenacity from our world-class project team. We are extremely proud to join our client, project partners, the provincial and municipal government, and residents in celebrating this public opening as we play a critical role in the 30-year maintenance term.”
Connecting to other transport services, including 68 bus routes, three TTC subway stations, the UP Express and two GO lines, line 5 Eglinton has a capacity of more than 123,000 passengers per day. In future it is also going to link to the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension, Ontario Line subway and the Scarborough Subway Extension.
