Czechia’s Homole Tunnel – Advance in construction

While the inauguration date of Czechia’s Homole Tunnel is December this year, the work is progressing towards the scheduled date and Marti and its consortium partners broke through on the tunnel late last year after 388 days of excavation by NATM.

Including two tubes with a combined length of more than 1.09km, this tunnel is located near Vysoké Mýto in the Pardubice region. It is part of a new motorway section intended to improve connectivity and easing traffic congestion across the area.

Due to existence of quaternary soils, sandy marlstones, and an unpredictable, ever-present groundwater inflow that required continuous pumping throughout the excavation process, the geological and hydrogeological conditions were particularly challenging.

Using 13 tonnes of explosives over construction, 90,000 tonnes of material were extracted; 14.35km of micropiles were installed; 10,000m³ of shotcrete were applied; and 4,000 rock anchors installed.
