Following that the TBM cutterhead was lowered into the launch chamber this week, tunneling on the next phase of Sao Paulo’s Line2-Green expansion is due to commence soon.
As an indication of a move towards the second phase of excavation for the metro line expansion, TBM Cora Coralina’s cutterhead was lowered into the shaft at the Penha Station construction site.
With 205-ton weight, this TBM has an 11.66m-diameter and its cutterhead was lifted into place by a 750-ton crane.
Completing the project’s first phase was already up to TBM Cora Coralina while excavating the section between the Rapadura Complex and the VSE Falchi Gianini, passing through stations including Vila Formosa, Anália Franco and Orfanato. The second phase is slated to extend from Penha Station to the Rapadura Complex.
