In order to advancing the Soloman Islands’ Tina River Hydro Project the TBM with 75m length has been delivered to site and it is due to excavate the 3.3km-long headrace tunnel through gravel and sandstone. Linking the dam to the powerhouse, this tunnel is 3.3m-diameter.
The scheduled date for commencing tunneling process is before the end of the year.
As the Soloman Islands’ first large-scale renewable energy venture, the 5MW-capacity hydro power station is going to provide around 70% of the electricity demand of Honiara and surroundings annually after completion in early 2028.
Also the construction of a 71.5m-high dam, temporary and permanent access roads, as well as transmission lines are the contents of this project and the powerhouse, with its three turbines, will be located about 5.4km downstream from the dam.
