Shanghai Water Project – Completing tunneling process

Breakthrough has been made on Shanghai’s Yingbin Water Plant Raw Water Pipe project.

Following excavating a 2.24km-long tunnel, the Herrenknecht EPB shield TBM, which has a diameter of 5.94m, broke through.

Linking the existing raw water pipe to the new water plant, the tunnel is due to house two new, 1,400m-diameter steel pipes.

In order to preparing the 34m-deep launch shaft for this TBM, Herrenknecht delivered a 14.9m vertical shaft sinking machine in previous year.

Supplying 400,000m³ of high-quality water per day to the Pudong New Area, as well as improving drinking water quality and strengthening supply security for several towns in the region, will be the advantages of this project after completion.
