Starting up TBM for Bucharest metro

For constructing  the south section of Bucharest’s Metro Line 6, the first of two TBMs has been commissioned.

Located between Tokyo and 1 Mai stations, the 6.6km-long tunnels will be dug by TBM Saint Mary and her sister TBM Saint Anne and there will be six stations along the south section.

Including 12 stations, the new Metro 6 Line with 14.2km length is due to link 1 Mai station with Henri Coanda – Otopeni International Airport.

With an average advance of 1.5m per hour, during which around about 60m3 of material will be excavated, TBM Saint Mary has a 6.6m diameter, is 97m long, and weighs approximately 600 tonnes.
