Following winning of the final civils package, Larsen & Toubro has added to its slew of work for the Mumbai Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Project.
Including a 135km alignment from Shilphata to Zaroli village comprising 124km of viaducts and bridges, six mountain tunnels, 36 crossings (including 12 steel bridges), and three elevated stations – Thane, Virar, and Boisar, the company package C-3 was granted by the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Ltd (NHSRCL).
According to Larsen & Toubro’s director and senior executive vice-president (civil infrastructure), Mr SV Desai: “This is the second largest package which L&T has won in this prestigious MAHSR project, and we are humbled by the trust reposed in us by our client, NHSRCL. By deploying state-of-the-art construction methods and extensive digital technologies, we will endeavor to complete this project, leveraging the experience from other MAHSR packages that we are currently executing.”
Linking Mumbai with Ahmedabad in Gujarat, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail project is 508km long and it also called the MAHSR Bullet Train project. The 465km of viaducts, 12 stations, three rolling stock depots, 28 steel bridges (including a 2km bridge over Vaitarna river), and nine tunnels, as well as India’s first undersea tunnel, are the contents of this project. As a part of a 21km tunnel between Bandra-Kurla Complex and Shilphata in the state of Maharashtra, the subsea section is 7km long. The contract package C-2 was handed to Afcons Infrastructure by NHSRCL in June 2023.
Additionally, Larsen & Toubro has already been awarded the civil and building works packages C-4 (237km); C-5 (8.2km); and C-6 (87.5km); and the ballastless trackworks package T-3.
Completion of package D-2, construction of the 82ha Sabarmati Depot in Gujarat, will be done by Larsen & Toubro in a consortium led by Japanese company Sojitz Corporation.
