The Cluj-Napoca Subway in Romania

In order to construct the subway in Cluj county, Cluj-Napoca, and Floresti municipalities, on the Romanian Minister of Transport, Sorin Grindeanu, concluded a collaboration protocol. Comprising of 21.03 km length and 19 underground stations as well as an above-ground depot, the light metro line is estimated to carry up to 164,000 passengers a day by 2030, while the determined date for completion of fundamental works for the first 9 stations is 2026.

The scheduled contract budget for this project is EUR 2.04 bn (RON10.11 bn), including VAT and the financing of the project is made from non-reimbursable external funds (including PNRR), from the state budget through the budget of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, as well as from the budget local of ATU Cluj-Napoca Municipality and of ATU Floresti Commune. Locations of holding the tender for the design and execution of this project, but also the implementation of the contract, will be Cluj-Napoca and Floresti town halls.

Confirmation of the Zonal Urban Plan of the future Cluj Metro has been done by the Technical Commission for Urbanism and Spatial Planning within the Cluj County Council.

According to Alin TiÈ™e, president of the Cluj County Council and of the Urbanism Commission: ” It is a project of strategic importance for the Cluj community and for the whole county, the reason for which we acted with maximum speed so that it advances as quickly as possible.”
