The U5 Europaviertel consortium, led by Austrian contractor Porr, has reached a crucial point in the U5 Europaviertel light rail line extension project in Frankfurt.
The consortium contains Porr’s civil engineering and tunnelling divisions and subsidiary Stump-Franki Spezialtiefbau. It has also finished the boring pit at Boulevard Ost, connecting it to the tunnel boring machine launch pit bored in 2019.
The pit enters the excavated section of the tunnel, with the section being built in open-cut construction.
Nevertheless, for the last connection with the launch pit, the transverse bulkhead was cut and then dismissed by the TBM.
Since February 2023, the civil engineering work in the area of the gap closure between the two excavation pits has been in the complete swing towards the starting shaft, where the structure bases building will also start soon.
