Mumbai Metro Lines

Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened extensions of Mumbai metro lines 2A and 7, on January 19, with passenger services beginning the next day.

The elevated Line 2A (Yellow) has been expanded 9 km south from Dahanukarwadi to Andheri West, carrying it to 18·6 km and 17 stations. In addition, line 7 has been expanded 6·2 km south from Aarey to Gundavali, taking it to 16·5 km with 13 stations. Also, both routes have interchanges with Line 1 (Purple).

Building lines 2A and 7 began in November 2016, and the first sections commenced in April 2022.

The services are worked by using six-car 25 kV 50 Hz trainsets provided by BEML in Bengaluru. It is worth mentioning that Alstom has delivered Urbalis 400 CBTC.

The trains and signaling have requirements for forthcoming driverless operation, and all stations are equipped with platform screen doors.

Also, contractor Afcons finished constructing the 550 m Kasheli Creek viaduct for the forthcoming Line 5 on January 24.
