hotan ruoqiang railway project china

As a part of China’s national medium and long-term railway network plan, the Hotan-Ruoqiang railway is a new single-track line that stretches through the edge of Taklimakan Desert in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, north-west China.

The ultimate part of Taklimakan Desert railway loop with 825km railway is asserted to be the first desert railway loop line in the world.

June 2022 is the planned date for commencing operation of this line. While the estimated budget for this project is CNY22.15bn ($3.48bn), it is a key regional railway line being advanced as part of China’s medium and long-term railway network plan.

Although in December 2018 the construction process of the Hotan-Ruoqiang railway line has been started, May 2020 was the commencing date for the track-laying work for the line and was ended in Minfeng county in September 2021.
