GDG (Gavin and Doherty Geosolutions) is to design two mammal tunnels for beneath the A55 between Tai’r Meibion and Abergwyngregyn in Wales.
The stretch of road has a load of difficulties such as pedestrian safety, congestion and animal safety – with traffic incidents frequently being caused by a mixture of all three.
GDG’s work is going to contain the construction and design method of two tunnels below the road to enable the safe passage of wildlife.
The company stated that it would take several elements into account; the structural requirements of the tunnel and the road, plus the geotechnical formation of the areas, and it will also analyze the possibility of overhead ground movement and flooding.
Gavin and Doherty Geosolutions mentioned that its “expertise in structural design and engineering will be the key to developing the new tunnels, which will offer a considerable improvement in safety to road users and wildlife”.
