The Quebec Ministry of Transportation awarded a 4-year operation and maintenance contract worth €726m to the Pomerleau Company and VINCI subsidiaries joint venture.
During the work on the 1.5km underwater tunnel in Montreal, which opened in 1967, transportation of people and goods will continue without obstructions.
The consortium is selected to fund, design, and ensure the most significant transportation corridor’s safety stretching from St Lawrence Seaway to the city of Longueuil, located below the Saint-Lawrence River.
According to the government officials, the start day will be 2021, and work will continue to July in 2025.
The joint venture will embark on:
- increasing the traffic capacity by extending A20 and adding car-sharing lanes and additional bus platforms
- major repairs to enhance the poured pavements quality on the A25, A20 roads, and the interchange
- updating the installed fire prevention and smoke control system
- applying technologies to improve risk management and safety structure
