In less than only a few days of Expo Dubai 2020 opening on October 1, 2021, it has witnessed a significant partnership signed among TBM-maker Herrenknecht and Etihad Rail.
Under the MOU (memorandum of understanding) signed between Dr. Martin Herrenknecht and Shadi Malak, Etihad Rail’s CEO, the Germany-based firm is going to train young Emirati engineers at its Herrenknecht Academy in Schwanau, Germany. The purpose is to exchange knowledge that will see the Emirati students gain the necessary skills and knowledge to raise their theoretical and vocational capabilities in the tunneling field.
Moreover, the cooperation between these two firms will have the purpose to optimize the design and building of the UAE’s rail tunnels, plus evaluate the feasibility of tunnel projects and mechanized tunneling technologies.
Etihad Rail has been established in June 2009 to manage the development, building, and operation of UAE’s (the United Arab Emirates) national rail network covering both passenger and freight services.
