HS2 presented the final list of Lineside M&E and Tunnel and Track Systems providers

On December 23rd, HS2’s released the proposers of its Track Systems and Tunnel and Lineside Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) systems. Almost 280km of state-of-the-art high-speed track and foundation, will be rendered to the successful organization. In addition, this project will assist UK to boost the frequent and trusty long-distance rail services.

This declaration is a significant chance for Britain’s construction and engineering sector, which is damaged by COVID-19 outcomes. The scheme and construction between London, Birmingham and Crewe, where HS2 trains will join the main West Coast Mainline, is included by this two sets of agreement. Moreover, the responsibility of managing and harmonizing the complicated junctions between the track and other elements of the rail systems, will also entrust to the winners of the Track systems.

As following, the mentioned organizations are going to be invited to the tender:

Lot 1 – Phase One (Urban – London and Birmingham) – £434m

Lot 2 – Phase One (Open Route – Central) – £526m

  • Balfour Beatty Group Ltd, ETF SAS, TSO SAS (BBVT Joint Venture)
  • Ferrovial Construction (UK) Ltd and BAM Nuttall Ltd (Ferrovial-BAM Joint Venture)
  • Colas Rail Ltd
  • STRABAG AG UK and Rhomberg Sersa UK (STRABAG Rhomberg Sersa Joint Venture)

Lot 3 – Phase One (Open Route – North) – £566m

  • Balfour Beatty Group Ltd, ETF SAS, TSO SAS (BBVT Joint Venture)
  • Ferrovial Construction (UK) Ltd and BAM Nuttall Ltd (Ferrovial-BAM Joint Venture)
  • Colas Rail Ltd

Lot 4 – Phase 2a (Track) – £431m

  • Ferrovial Construction (UK) Ltd and BAM Nuttall Ltd (Ferrovial-BAM Joint Venture)
  • Colas Rail Ltd

Implementation of rail, switches and crossings and pre-cast slab track will be done by different suppliers. In addition, controlling the design, logistics and assembling is related to Track Systems contractor duties. As soon as the completion of the tunnels, bridges, viaducts and earthworks, the winners will initiate their work in location.

Track Systems agreement winners will supervise the scheme and construction of plain line track, switches and crossings, an infrastructure maintenance storage, controlling construction logistics and supporting the testing and triggering phase. Meanwhile they will work as Construction Design and Management (CDM) Principal for tracing and will be responsible for logistics and consents coordination.

The fundamental contractor for presenting the design, supply, construction, installation, testing, triggering and maintenance (until delivering) of the Phase One and Phase 2a Tunnel and Lineside M&E systems, will be the owner of the estimated £498m Tunnel and Lineside M&E pack. This package involves the tunnel services within the shafts, tunnels and cross-passages, reduction in power voltage services and dispensation in the open path. The ventilation system’s designing, providing, installation, testing and inception; are also parts of this package.

For Tunnel and Lineside M&E tender the following organizations will be invited:

  • Alstom Transport UK Ltd
  • Balfour Beatty Bailey Joint Venture (BBB JV) – a joint venture between Balfour Beatty Group Ltd and NG Bailey Ltd
  • Costain Group PLC

At the peak of construction, HS2 will support around 30,000 jobs and contracts like this will provide a real boost for employers across the supply chain, helping to boost skills and provide opportunities for years to come,” stated David Poole, HS2 Ltd’s Procurement and Commercial Director.

It is expected to have Track Systems and Tunnels and Lineside M&E contracts awarded by 2022.
