Airport metro rail construction commencing

The new Metro railway line is on construction stage. This line will serve Greater Western Sydney and the new Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport.

The final list of consortia that are eligible for tunneling works of this mega project include:

  • Bouygues Construction Australia Pty Ltd
  • John Holland Gamuda Joint Venture
  • Acciona Construction Australia Pty Ltd

The main responsibility of the winner company is to deliver 10 kilometers of twin Metro railway tunnels and the related excavations of station boxes.

It is expected that the contract will be awarded by the end of 2021, while the determined time for settling the first of four mega tunnel boring machines in the ground is mid of 2023.

The 23 km Metro railway and six stations among St Marys and the Western Sydney Aerotropolis, including two stations at the airport, are the services that both Australian and NSW governments are delivering.

The project will support 14,000 jobs, including 250 apprentices. For further information, please click here.
