Fehmarnbelt Tunnel Project Site

Considering that on 29 April a person working on the Fehmarnbelt Tunnel was killed due to the accident on the construction site in Puttgarden, Germany, Femern A/S has issued an update on the Fehmarnbelt Tunnel project on Monday 30 April.

According to the organization’s statement, the incident occurred almost 2pm when a 41-year-old Polish construction worker was struck by an excavator shovel and suffered a head injury, while the location of his work was the portal area on the construction site in Puttgarden, Germany, where drainage work is under way.

Despite to immediate response of the emergency services, the man died at the scene and his family has been notified.

Currently investigation about this accident is undergoing by the relevant German authorities, and the construction companies involved. Following the incident, all employees on site were offered psychological crisis counselling.

“Our condolences go out to the family of the deceased during this difficult time. The safety of our workers is of utmost importance during the construction of the Fehmarnbelt Tunnel. We will await the findings of the authorities’ investigation and any potential recommendations,” said Femern A/S CEO Henrik Vincentsen.
