The attached video has been released by Gateway Development Commission that is focusing on the people building the Hudson Tunnel Project.
In a joint statement, GDC commissioners said:”The video put a human face on the jobs the HTP was creating. It lets us hear, in their own words, what this project means to the people building it. The Hudson Tunnel Project will benefit the New York/New Jersey region and the entire country for decades, but we do not have to wait until construction is finished to feel the positive impacts. Building the HTP is already providing thousands of stable, good-paying jobs, and it will support tens of thousands more in the months and years ahead.”
According to GDC CEO Tom Prendergast: “Too often, the people who built megaprojects like the HTP were invisible. This video gives them a voice, and their message is clear: building the HTP is not just a job, it is an opportunity to be part of something bigger – to create a legacy that benefits the communities they call home. Thanks to the workers featured in this video, and thousands more who are hard at work every day, GDC is advancing the HTP on scope, schedule, and budget. We are grateful for the leaders in Washington, New York, and New Jersey who have supported our work, and look forward to delivering this critical project that will benefit riders for generations to come.”
Including a new, two-tube tunnel beneath the Hudson River, and rehabilitating the existing 115-year-old tunnel, construction of the 14.5km of new passenger rail track between New York and New Jersey, is content of the HTP.
At the moment five of the 10 construction projects that make up the HTP areadvancing and the estimated date for awarding contracts for two more projects by GDC is 2026, whereas tunnel boring is expected to commence in 2026.
The GDC says these active projects are supporting 20,200 jobs and US$4.5bn in economic output. In total, construction of the HTP is projected to support 95,000 jobs and US$19.6bn in economic activity.
