The NZTS in Auckland, Aotearoa New Zealand is due to host 18th Australasian Tunnelling will be hosted between the 5th and 8th November 2023. While emphasizing on Trends and Transitions in Tunnelling, the main themes of the conference include:

Resilience: wellbeing, infrastructure, economics; Relationships: industry, stakeholders and future generations;

Guardianship: sustainability and legacy. Re-purposing and enhancing existing infrastructure, decarburization;

Future (s): what kind of infrastructure is needed.

Although the main consideration of the conference committee is the abstracts on the following topics, all abstracts relevant to tunneling are welcomed:

  • Transition engineering, sustainability and economic growth
  • Metros and mass transit
  • Digital engineering, instrumentation and monitoring
  • Hydropower and utility tunnels
  • Mechanized tunneling
  • Conventional tunneling/SEM/caverns
  • Tunnel operations, assetanagement, repurposing and rehabilitation

  • Human factors: users, resourcing, training, competency education and diversity

  • Underground architecture and space development
  • Grouting, ground modifications and hydrogeology
  • Sprayed concrete and tunnel linings

  • Shafts
  • Tunnels and tunneling for mines
  • Geotechnical characterization, seismicity and difficult ground
  • Risk management, collaboration and contracting

The determined deadlines are:
– Abstracts Due – 31st March 2023
– Acceptance of Abstract and Notifications – 31st May 2023
– Papers Due – 31 August 2023
– Paper Moderations and final papers – 30 September 2023
