According to the Guangdong Communications Group, the construction of the steel shell of a significant undersea tunnel in southern China has ended.
According to reports, the tunnel is made up of 32 tubes, and forms part of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan cross-sea link project.
The 24-kilometre connection linking the cities of Shenzhen and Zhongshan will play a significant role in the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
The connection contains a 6.8-kilometre underwater tunnel and two artificial islands. As said, the tunnel is the vastest undersea steel-shell immersed tunnel in the world, with four lanes in each direction.
The Shenzhen-Zhongshan cross-sea link will be operational by 2024. As anticipated, it will reduce the journey time between the two cities from two hours to 30 minutes.
