Beginning Pipeline Tender Process by United Utilities Water

Haweswater Aqueduct Resilience Programme (HARP) Project Site

On by holding a tender launch event in Manchester, the tender process for the Haweswater Aqueduct Resilience Programme (HARP) will get underway.

Including replacing six tunnel sections – almost 50km – of the 110km pipeline that carries drinking water from Haweswater in Cumbria to Greater Manchester, HARP is due to be delivered via a Direct Procurement for Customers (DPC) approach for United Utilities Water. Additionally, it includes connections to existing multiline siphons among the tunnel sections and associated facilities and the commissioning and maintenance of the works for around 25 years.

Construction work for bridges, tunnels, shafts, and subways, as well as the tunneling works, are also the contents of this contract.

Determined deadline for companies in order to registering their interest in the launch event at HARP@uuplc.co.uk is midday May 30.

Comprising United Utilities, Jacobs, Mott MacDonald, British Geological Survey, and Wardell Armstrong, the HARP team was named the Ground Investigation Project of the Year at the 2021 Ground Engineering Awards.

The team delivered the ground investigations in under two years by running the ground investigations concurrently across the six tunnel sections. The team also optimized the technical output of every borehole to minimize the number of boreholes required, while also maximizing the value of the information obtained.
