The determined deadline for companies to register for Transport for London’s second DLR extension market engagement event focused on the project’s delivery model is today.
Following an earlier event on December 2, the next industry day on February 25 and a subsequent Market Sounding Questionnaire (MSQ) is due to concentrate on the commercial and contracting model for the Thamesmead Extension (TEX) project.
While the indicative scope of the works includes a cross-river, twin-bore tunnel almost 1.5km long, and new stations at Beckton Riverside and Thamesmead, the TEX program is a proposed 3km extension of the DLR from Gallions Reach to Thamesmead via Beckton Riverside.
The scheduled date for commencing works on this £1.62bn project is 2028, whereas it is expected to be phased and be completed by 2033.
The initial pre-procurement strategy at this stage anticipates a multi-stage procurement process with an early contractor involvement.
With the aim of driving improvement, capturing construction efficiencies to reduce cost, and seeking innovative techniques to reduce carbon to meet the net zero gain and improve whole life costs, TfL has embarked on implementing a new delivery model.
