Being located in the municipality of San Lorenzo Maggiore, in the province of Benevento, excavation of the 1.65km-long San Lorenzo Tunnel on the Naples-Bari high-speed railway has been completed.
Currntly excavation of four tunnels on this section, San Lorenzo, Reventa, Limata, and Ponte tunnels, has been completed by the Telese Scarl Consortium, comprising Ghella, Itinera, Salcef, and Coget Impianti.
As the second longest in the Telese–Vitulano section, the San Lorenzo Tunnel was built using traditional methods combined with innovative techniques to address the specific geological characteristics of the terrain, as said Ghella.
The works were commissioned by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, under the supervision of Italferr.
Stretching over 145km, the Naples-Bari high-speed, high-capacity line will include 15 tunnels, 25 viaducts, and 20 stations and stops along the route. The project is part of the TEN-T Scandinavian–Mediterranean European railway corridor.
