Tata marks 11th breakthrough on Chennai Metro

Tata Projects Ltd has made its 11th breakthrough on the TU-01 contract for Chennai Metro Phase 2.

TBM Nilagiri (S96) broke through at the Moolakadai North shaft this week after boring the 819m section from Madhavaram High Road Station.

Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL) says the drive was challenging as TBM Nilagiri excavated beneath the Buckingham canal, busy roads and near 14 bore wells.

Under contract TU-01, Tata Project is constructing the 9km underground section of Corridor 3 from Madhavaram Milk Colony to Kellys. It has deployed seven TBMs on the alignment.

In total, CMRL has completed 24 TBM breakthroughs on the Phase 2 project.

Chennai Metro Phase 2 is a 118.9km-long network comprising three corridors with 128 stations.
