Pfons-Brenner construction lot – Breakthrough in the east main tunnel

Despite geologically challenging area of Hochstegen, a new landmark has been reached for the H53 Pfons-Brenner construction lot in the Austrian part of the BBT project. The date of making a breakthrough in the southward excavation in the east main tunnel, about 1,200 m eneath the Padauner Kogel peak in the township of Steinach am Brenner was 08 May,whereas drilling and blasting was the used method for excavation work in that stretch. Covering 85% of the entire project,196 km of tunnels have been dug so far.
